What is Venusians about?
Editorial
While going through the pages of 'The Dance of Shiva', I came across the following piece
of conversation between Lord Shiva and Uma. The great god asks her to describe the duties
of women. Then She, who is queen of heaven, and yet so sweetly human answers:
" The duties of woman are created in the rites of wedding, when in the presence of nuptial
fire she becomes the associate of her Lord, for the performance of righteous deeds. She
would rise early, serving the Gods, always keeping her house clean, tending to the domestic
sacred fire, eating only after the needs of Gods and guests have been satisfied, devoted to her
father and mother and the father and mother of her husband. Devotion to her Lord is woman's
honour."
Similar texts from a variety of Indian sources could be indefinitely multiplied. From ages
our society has nurtured these ideologies and thus the perception of woman is in accordance
with the above conversation. She has been hailed as the flag bearer of a generation -
as a daughter, 'bahu', wife or mother. She has been created for 'supreme sacrifice', but at
the same time she is a 'beautiful beast' who has been praised in poetry, paintings and other
forms of art.
However, this image of a woman, termed as 'traditional', has today paved way for the
'new age woman' who is Janus-faced. There is a greater sense of control over her own life
but she is still living life on a hold.
Probably this was the reason that we, at 'Reflections' decided to unveil God's greatest
creation- 'The Woman'. We have not only tried to explore the identity of new age woman,
but also made an attempt to discover a true woman - her desires, her passion, her feelings
and whatsoever makes her a fascinating being on this earth!
For the male 'Homo Sapiens' of the campus, we conducted extensive surveys in the temple of
TIET- the E-hostel, revealing some extraordinary facts about the eves of the campus. And not
to forget, we have brought lots of 'spicy' stuff in and around the campus, once again, in all
different style.
So, 'Reflections' wish her readers a great time woman hunting!
